2026 Remembrance Day Wreaths

Once again, November 11th is quickly approaching and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60 is preparing for the annual Poppy Campaign, which this year will run from October 24th to November 10th, and the Remembrance Day ceremony to be held on Wednesday November 11th at 11:00 am at the cenotaph beside City Hall.

After the 2025 ceremony we have been asked to find ways to shorten the actual ceremony. The number of parties requesting laying of wreaths has grown over the years and adds quite a substantial time to the ceremony.

With that we are making a change in the timing of Wreath placement. This change has been needed to ensure the wreaths are placed with the respect they deserve. In the past the laying of the wreaths has been difficult due to large crowds and foul weather.

This year most of the wreaths will be placed on the evening of November 10 during a ceremony facilitated by Branch 60 Royal Canadian Legion, the Burlington Army, Navy, and Air Force Cadet Corps. The solemn vigil at the cenotaph by the cadet groups begins at 5:45 pm, November 10th and will continue with cadets posted at the cenotaph until 12:00 pm on November 11th.

Wreath layers are requested to attend the cenotaph November 10th between 6:30 pm and 8:30 to participate in this ceremony. With this new ceremony there is more time for anyone placing a wreath to bring as many family members they wish.

A limited number of wreaths will still be placed during the November 11th service to maintain Military tradition. Those parties will be notified prior to the ceremony.

All names of anyone placing a Wreath on either November 10th or 11th will still have the names read out during the November 11th ceremony.

If you wish to purchase a wreath this year, please advise by mail or in person, as soon as possible, so that we can make the necessary arrangements. The price for a 20-inch diameter wreath with easel is $100. We currently accept cash or cheque for payment. Please make cheques payable to Royal Canadian Legion Br. 60 Poppy Fund.

For your convenience we have enclosed an order form and would appreciate a reply no later than Friday, November 6, 2026. Payment must accompany your order form, or no wreath will be reserved.

We would like to count on your continued support by purchasing a wreath. This is one way of showing your support to our living veterans and those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Honour our Veterans Banner Program - 2026

To participate in the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program, please complete and submit the enclosed application form, along with a sponsorship cheque of $196 made payable to RCL Br60. The banner will be displayed on a Burlington lamppost for a period of approximately 3 weeks starting prior to Remembrance Day (November 11). The banners will be displayed for one, 3-week period once a year for two years. The safe storage of the banners is the responsibility of the applicant. You will be notified of the dates for display and removal. The dates given will be strictly enforced. There are a limited number of spots available. Please confirm your participation ASAP.

Poppy Campaign Volunteers Needed

Late October - November 11

The 2026 Poppy Campaign will run from late October until Wednesday, Nov. 11. It's very much a local initiative conducted by Legion Branches across the country. Donations collected during the Poppy Campaign are held in Trust at the branch level to directly support Veterans and their families and to help ensure Canadians "never forget".
In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, Poppies can be seen in every corner of this great country. This show of support and display of remembrance would not be possible without the efforts of thousands of Legionnaires who volunteer to distribute Poppies to the community through schools, community organizations and local businesses. We are so grateful for their efforts and for the support of the many partners, local and national, who welcome Legion volunteers and Poppy boxes into their locations.

Lawn Sign - We Will Remember Them

A fantastic and respectful way to display a message of Remembrance for all to see. The 16” x 24” sign is made from coroplast (recyclable) so it can withstand the often-unpredictable fall weather, from hot sunny days to cold snowy nights. The sign comes with a 30” metal stake, and after assembly and installation the sign should sit approximately 15” above the ground.

Each sign costs $20
Lawn signs are available at the Burlington Legion Branch 60 in October prior to Remembrance Day.
